The term refers to the way agricultural products are grown, handled, and processed. The certified organic label indicates plants or foodstuffs grown or raised without the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilizers, antibiotics, or growth hormones. Skeptics might think organic is just a label created to make you pay more at the grocery store, but there are federal guidelines to what makes a product organic. A government-approved certifier inspects a farm before the organic label can be applied to its products. While there is debate about whether or not organic foods are healthier for you, some studies have shown people who eat entirely organic diets have fewer pesticides in their bodies.
