Eco-conscious Products

As the temperatures start to dip, it's easy to pick up a catalog from The Company Store and imagine yourself nestled in a giant down comforter or a snuggly robe. This year, the company (which has been in the textile business since 1911) is offering a chance to be cozy and eco-conscious by debuting products made from bamboo and organic cotton. The company's eco-friendly line includes clothing and bedding made from bamboo, which is absorbent, hypoallergenic, and dries quickly.

New bamboo-cotton blended towels come in an array of colors and range in price from $6 to $36; robes are $79; and blankets cost between $59 and $89. The company's organic cotton products are made with cotton that was certified by Skal International, now known as Control Union Certifications. The line has soft basics like 100 percent organic-cotton-filled pillows with organic cotton pillow protectors for $89 to $109 and pile bath rugs for $39 to $99. The dyes used in all the new products are environmentally-friendly and Oeko-Tex certified. "There are no harsh chemicals in them and they're helpful for people who have allergies or are sensitive to chemicals," says spokeswoman Lisa Schein. Consumer response has been so positive that the retailer is planning to expand the eco-friendly line.
