Mother-daughter duo Mary and Shelly Klein make sustainable design seem effortless. As the founders of k studio, based in Grand Rapids, MI, the Kleins have developed a winning philosophy grounded in their belief that "good design and sustainability are not at odds with one another." Thus, k studio's whimsical pillows, handbags, journals, and pouches are crafted with 100 percent organic cotton and hemp, recycled wool, and post-industrial recycled polyester.

If you shop at their online store, be prepared to feel like a kid in a candy store, as each product is totally customizable. Dozens of illustration options are available, each painted by Shelly herself (paintings are also sold separately on the k studio website). And there is a selection of stitch colors offered for the line of down-stuffed throw pillows.
