Do you really need all those printouts? On a typical day, an office worker in the U.S. will print out about 40 pages of material. Of those 40 pages, eight will go into a trash or recycling bin that very same day.
If we took the time to carefully preview documents onscreen and eliminate those wasted eight pages, in one year we could collectively save at least 2.4 million trees-more than 90 times the number of trees in all of New York City's Central Park.
It's not all about posts and beams. For builders, this is an energy-efficient alternative to traditional wood frame construction. It consists of prefabricated panels of rigid foam insulation surrounded by plywood or oriented-strand board. SIPs provide the structural frame of a building and its insulation in one unit, reducing labor and construction-site waste, and contributing to a very airtight building envelope. SIPs can be used for roofs and gables as well as walls.
