Optimize Outdoor Water Use

Do you have a sprinkler or irrigation system for your lawn? Consider installing a soil moisture sensor to save water and improve overall irrigation management.

As the seasons begin to change and the weather gets cooler, you might find yourself using more water than your landscaping really needs.

According to the EPA, the average U.S. household uses over 40,000 gallons of water per year for outdoor purposes, much of which is used inefficiently for plant and lawn irrigation.

Properly installed and maintained soil moisture sensors gauge the amount of water available to plants, and adjust watering times accordingly. These sensors have the potential to save an average household more than 10,000 gallons of water per year.

Nationwide, landscaping is estimated to account for more than 7 billion gallons of water per day. If soil moisture sensors were used nationwide, the annual water savings could total more than half of a trillion gallons-roughly equal to the amount of water withdrawn each year from the Colorado River.
