Install a Low-Flow Showerhead

Was your showerhead installed before Bill Clinton became President? Showerheads installed prior to 1992 regularly use 5 gallons of water per minute-or 50 gallons for a 10-minute shower.

Unlike the low-flow models of the 1970s and 1980s that restricted water flow to barely a trickle, today's brands use aerators and pressurizers to conserve water without decreasing the force of the spray.

New low-flow showerheads reduce water flow by nearly 70 percent, and most cost less than $10.

Replacing your old showerhead with a new model could save you more than 30 gallons of water per shower, or 12,000 gallons per year.

If everyone in the U.S. took just one shower with a low-flow showerhead instead of a standard showerhead, the savings would equal nearly 9 billion gallons of water.
