Smart growth |
 |
For decades, the car has been the quintessential symbol of individual freedom. Proponents of smart growth are betting that Americans would be more liberated by getting around on their own two feet. The goal of smart growth is to revitalize older cities and develop new, neighborhood-focused, sustainable communities that are well planned, walkable, diverse, and safe, as well as to emphasize good quality, regionally appropriate architecture, and comfortable, resource-efficient design. Also known as new urbanism. |
