Old-growth tree

This is a tree that has lived hundreds, even thousands of years. Such trees are usually found in mature forests that haven't been subjected to logging operations-a rare forest in this day and age. Old-growth trees are very valuable in the timber market, and so have been heavily harvested; responsible forestry today includes protecting old-growth trees from destruction.
