Laminate

This term refers to thin layers of material that are bonded together to create a strong, durable product used in building and home furnishings. Plywood is an example of a laminate, as is Formica. Countertops and flooring are often made of laminate materials. These products have the downside of being bonded with adhesives which often contain formaldehyde, a dangerous chemical that can offgas from the material, affecting indoor air quality. Formaldehyde-free alternatives are sometimes available.
