Heavy metals

Maybe this term makes you think of your music collection back in high school. Environmentally speaking, however, we're talking about cadmium, chromium, copper, mercury, lead, and other naturally occurring metallic elements with high molecular weight, many of which are dangerous pollutants. Many are released into the environment via industrial processes, and bioaccumulate in the systems of fish, wildlife, and livestock, eventually wreaking havoc on human health.
