Aggregate

As a kid, you might have known aggregate as the worst part of getting a skinned knee. This construction material is any of a variety of mineral substances, including gravel, crushed stone, and sand-and the stuff you might land on if you fall off your bike. It is a fundamental ingredient in concrete and asphalt, and can be used as a base for building foundations and as a roof surfacing material. Crushed, recycled concrete can also be used as an aggregate material.
